For those of you who couldn’t stomach the perfection of the Twilight couple onscreen or off, here is a bit of news to brighten up your day: Robert Pattison has left Kristen Stewart. This news comes at the heels of a Us Weekly cover story full of evidence that Stewart was cavorting with the married director of Snow White and the Huntsman, 41-year-old Rupert Sanders.
“I’m deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I’ve caused to those close to me and everyone this has affected,” Stewart said in a statement earlier today. “This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I’m so sorry.”
Apparently, the apology wasn’t enough. Pattison packed his bags and bailed out of the home the two share in Los Angeles. The couple had been together four years at this point. According to a source who spoke with People, the fling with Sanders wasn’t a relationship: “It was just a fleeting moment that shouldn’t have happened.”
Oops. Meanwhile, Sanders has issued his own statement: “I am utterly distraught about the pain I have caused my family … My beautiful wife and heavenly children are all I have in this world. I love them with all my heart. I am praying that we can get through this together.”
For her part, Sanders’ wife, the model Liberty Ross, tweeted “Wow.” from her Twitter account before deleting her account altogether.
And you thought keeping your alibis straight was hard. Pfft.
