Prepare Yourself for a New Free, High-Quality Porn Tube

Pink Visual

It’s hard to say how much revenue the porn industry has lost to free porn tube sites. No matter what they do, they can’t seem to bring their sales back to the levels they saw before these sites made access to porn so easy. Tired of fighting, the adult video production company Pink Visual is joining their ranks.

Sort of. They’re working with other studios in the industry to launch an entirely free, ad-supported streaming site that will bring fans the porn they want while still creating a direct source of revenue for the studios that provided the content. … Continue Reading

The Story of a Disappearing Critique on Google+

How free is speech on Google+?

On Wednesday, November 02, Bryan Jones shared a public post on Google+ protesting the censorship of artist Paul Roustan‘s art on Google+ which contained an album with 22 images. A handful of the images were quickly flagged by Google+ and some time on Friday, November 04, the post itself became restricted to other users.

Because Jones could still see the post, the movement he had sought to start to bring awareness to censorship practices on Google+ (illustrated by the hashtag #occupygpluscensorship), lost the momentum it had gained in the previous 48 hours. In a conversation with Googler Brian Rose, Rose told Jones that the post “should not have been automatically made private to me… something was wrong… and that he would follow up with Google’s Post team on Monday.” … Continue Reading

Geek Foreplay Fail

October 19, 2011 geek, SciFet No Comments

Wherein we establish that “Who’s your Daddy?” is not the same as “Luke, I am your father,” no matter how much into cosplay you think you are.

On that note, we find it hilarious how many bad reviews the Obi-Wan Kenobi Lightsaber ($26.99) got on Amazon because of the vibrating feature. Someone even put instructions in a review about how to make it stop! … Continue Reading

The Story Behind Dot-XXX: We Still Oppose It and You Should Too

It’s been over ten years since the idea of creating top-level domain (TLD) specifically for pornographic sites. Last week, dot-xxx finally went into operation.

IMC, which operates dot-xxx domains, list several benefits for adult producers who use the dot-xxx domain. They believe that by making dot-xxx a recognizable brand through multi-million dollar advertising campaigns, they can bring security and confidence to porn consumers who have grown afraid of the potential for malware and abusive practices generally believed to be common problems with adult sites.

ICM also promises the ability for parents and companies to easily filter adult sites to ensure children and employees do not access pornographic content. Simultaneously, through registry-sponsored portals and directed search, they promise adult webmasters an increase in traffic and access to untapped markets. They also promise the implementation of a payment system that does not excessively charge producers of pornographic content, and enables consumers to make anonymous payments.

This is all well and good, except much of it is a bunch of hot air, and we’ll tell you why. … Continue Reading

Apple Goes After Android Adult App Store

April 12, 2011 geek, News, Technology No Comments

Apple is the Junior Anti-Sex League

Last month, Apple took to the courts to begin enforcing its trademark on the name “app store” in hopes of keeping it out of competitors’ hands. They slapped a suit on Amazon’s app store as soon as it opened and are still tangled in a suit with Microsoft that resembles a circus more than a serious intellectual property case, what with all the linguists running about and the endless quibbling about font sizes.

Feeling impotent, no doubt, Apple has since gone after MiKandi, the first-ever adult app store for Android devices. In an effort to avoid costly, interminable lawsuits, the small Seattle-based operation has changed its tagline from “the world’s first adult app store” to “the world’s first adult app market.” We like boutique better, but market does the trick, since Apple’s trademark only applies to this exact combination of otherwise completely generic words. … Continue Reading

Cthulhu in Your Bedroom

Cthulhu dildo

Did you know that in some states sex toys can’t be shaped like human genitalia? It’s a weird obscenity thing, and toy manufacturers have found a thousand and one ways around it, with designs the masses have embraced. Thanks to popular shows and films, many designs — like the Jack Rabbit and Pearl Butterfly — have reached a certain renown.

We’ve never been too impressed with these designs. There’s just something strange about enjoying the undulations of a dolphin in one’s vagina, or being impaled over and over by Hello, Kitty. … Continue Reading

Guy Gets Hit on by Male Video Game Character, Freakout Ensues

March 28, 2011 Culture, Games, geek, web No Comments

Dragon Age II is so gay!

After much waiting, Dragon Age II was finally released at the beginning of the month. The reviews for Bioware’s latest role playing game were not good, especially in comparison to its predecessor, Dragon Age: Origins, which had captured the imaginations and hearts of a large contingent of gamers.

But then in a twist no publicist could have possibly orchestrated, something spectacular happened: after being hit on by a male character in the game, a male gamer took to the Bioware forum and wrote a petulant whinge-fest about how the creators had completely ignored their largest demographic — the Straight Male Gamer (his capitalization, not ours). … Continue Reading

Houston Press Writer Outs Journalist as Stripper, Makes Ass of Himself

The Houston Press unceremoniously outted Sarah Tressler as a writer, adjunct professor and stripper, suggesting that she’s only doing what she’s doing because she wants a book deal and a movie made about her life. “It’s all pretty much what you’d expect,” he says. “Writing in the style that really, really wants to be described as ‘fearless’ and ‘intelligent’ and ‘funny’ and ‘sexy.’”

Self-Censorship Isn’t More Honest Than Pseudonymity

In a world where employers can easily find out everything about you, where insurance companies can decide to give or deny coverage because they see some status update as representing a liability, where a judge at family court can take away your children because — God forbid — you had a photo taken at Playboy West some Halloween… It’s not a matter of the web exposing you. It’s a matter of no longer having the ability to segregate different aspects of your life as we were once easily able to do and the concern is entirely valid.

It’s Not About The Babies, It’s About Control

But there is one question we just haven’t been able to answer to our satisfaction — at least not without exposing the absolutely disgusting hypocrisy of people who claim to be interested in preserving the beautiful tradition of freedom and autonomy that this country represents. The question was posed simply enough: “The conservative party’s devotion to preserving the life of the unborn is admirable, but their concern seems to only extend to the unborn. Why are people so devoted to life in the name of God treat the very children they have saved as unnecessary burdens on the state, to be excised like so many malignant tumors?”

Three Paragraphs Every Woman Needs to Know by Heart

Every woman knows the word slut has power. Whether you love it or hate it, the word “slut” is an evocation of a gender double standard used to control women and no woman alive hasn’t thought about what it means to be labeled in this way. In some cultures, where honor killings take place, it is a matter of life or death. If you’re a “good” woman, don’t kid yourself. It means you’ve spent your life and will continue to spend your life calibrating your appearance, speech and behavior so that you are not a slut.

If You Want Your Insurance to Cover Birth Control, You’re A Slut and A Prostitute

Initially, it is unclear whether Limbaugh repeatedly cites this fraudulent article as a means to justify his dishonest tirade or if he truly failed to do the appropriate research regarding Fluke’s remarks, but as his show continues and Limbaugh plays more clips from Sandra Fluke’s congressional hearing, it becomes evident that he is picking and choosing what he wants his listeners to hear, in order to corroborate the allegation he made in a previous show that Fluke is nothing but a slut who wants everyone else to pay for her birth control.

40 Days of Choice

Hoping to provide pro-choice supporters a space to counter anti-abortion rhetoric and activity surrounding the “40 Days for Life” Lent campaign, a Tumblr has been erected to cheer on those who believe that a woman’s body doesn’t belong to society.
