Ryan Keely takes over Fleshbot

You’ve read your share of reviews. Reviews on Yelp, reviews on Amazon, reviews on blogs. People love to talk about how much they love a product or how much they hate it. Ranting: whether it’s positive or negative, it is what we do.

What we don’t usually see on the internet are videos that put things to the test. … Continue Reading

World Cup Delicious

It’s World Cup time and the web is clogged with all manner of information about the teams, the matches and the players. Awesome. Our editrix is a huge soccer fanatic, so we’ve suffered more games than we care to recount. In any event, just because we’re bitter doesn’t mean you shouldn’t enjoy the spoils of the match.

So, all you lovers of men, here’s Italy’s Fabio Cannavaro. For all you lovers of women, scroll down for skin and World Cup WAGs. … Continue Reading

Naked Star Wars

May 16, 2010 Eyecandy, SciFet, Women 1 Comment

It’s no mystery that our editrix is a bit of a geek. Last night, we found her epically amused by a photo on which she’d stumbled looking at pr0n on Tumblr (which, by the way, is, in her opinion, the best sexy-image aggregator there exists). Behold, the geekery:

By all means click to enlarge. And stroke to enlarge as well, etc. But we didn’t have to tell you that. Oh, yes: you’re welcome.

Happy Boobquake!

On Friday, we told you about Boobquake, a movement to stir the tectonic plates with the power of our scandalous bodies. This Monday, we’re active, spreading our promiscuity in lingerie all over the newsroom and neighborhood Starbucks. But since most of you won’t get to enjoy that, here’s our editrix, let her quake your world:

Want more? Our editrix did a little round-up of photos from the event just for your viewing pleasure over at lalawag.

Oh, yeah. You’re welcome.

Did any of you join in the #boobquake?

UPDATE: BlagHag’s Jen McCreight, who started the movement, posts about the response to the boobquake effort.

Obscene on Facebook!

Ah, Facebook. You’re like that girl we date that makes us crazy but we just can’t leave her. We cheat with Twitter and a handful of other social networks, thinking we might just do it, we might just jump ship, but we never do and we know, somewhere deep inside, that we never will.

Even when we get warnings like this one:

This is the third time our editrix has violated Facebook with nudity. The photo in question — taken by Curious Josh Reiss — is below for your viewing pleasure:

Have you ever had a photo removed for violating the Facebook guidelines for photos?

Minx of Dreams

While we were in Manhattan up to absolutely no good, we happened to meet Andrea Grant, creator and writer of the comic MINX. Immediately drawn to the complex plot line and sexy heroine (based on Grant herself), we knew we had to share her with you.

So we asked her to take a time out from her incredibly busy schedule as the editor of TheFashionSpot and fashionista-about-town to tell us a little bit more about the comic.

Sex and the 405: How did MINX come about?

Andrea Grant: Although it started out as a comic strip in the back of my literary arts magazine, Copious, I started seriously publishing MINX in 2006. I’ve always been obsessed with the lines between fantasy, reality, and dreams. The creation of MINX was cathartic; it happened right after I emerged from a very dark period in my life.

MINX began as an alter ego that I felt safe working with creatively as I sought to find my voice as an artist. Minx is an archetype of the empowered, modern woman that challenges tradition while embracing sexuality and femininity. MINX is a very personal project — both a conceptual self-portrait, and a response to the way that the celebrity-obsessed media often corrupts the truth and distorts the boundaries of fantasy and actuality. The world of Minx is real to me, albeit a hyper-reality.

Sex and the 405: You mix Native American folklore and fantasy in the comic seamlessly. How did it occur to you — are you Native American?

Andrea Grant: I am half-Native, through my Coast Salish father, who is also a Shaman. I would go with him to pow-wows, where I met some tribal elders, who told amazing traditional stories. And I thought that it would be interesting to combine some of these stories with other universal myths in the graphic novel format. What’s great about comics is that the audience accepts the epic and the supernatural.

Sex and the 405: What do you want readers to take away from the comic?

Andrea Grant: The goal is for others to seem themselves in these archetypes, and also to make an impact when it comes to retelling old myths and preserving traditional stories.

There’s an interesting new book by Mike Madrid called Supergirls: Fashion, feminism, fantasy, and the history of comic book heroines which examines how female characters have evolved through the years. They started out as film noir vixens, and then had to battle for equality in the 1950’s, until they finally became empowered again (i.e. She-Hulk and Catwoman, which I grew up reading).

But these characters always seemed 2-dimensional to me: superhero identity vs. true identity. I wanted to create a more emotionally complicated, 3-dimensional character in Minx, who is something of an anti-hero grimly accepting the fact that she has been called to this strange adventure in Dreamtime.

All of my characters are moody and as complicated as any of us, and it’s that streak of humanity that makes Minx unique. She plays with the boys, but she’s definitely a woman.

And here’s a little something-something for you, because we like you that much. A picture of Andrea Grant herself:

You’re welcome.

Special thanks to Colleen Nika for the intro. That girl knows everybody.

The Girls of Etsy

February 16, 2010 Culture, Eyecandy, web, Women 2 Comments

Leave it to UrbanDaddy to turn the common shopping experience into a celebration of sexy. During a cursory browsing of Etsy, a site used the world over by sellers of jewelry, knits and other crafts, they noticed something spectacular: sometimes really hot girls model the wares.

Welcome to the Girls of Etsy, a concept just crazy enough to work…

That’s right—beyond the girly veneer and the crafternoon-ready hand-knit scarves, there is a hidden treasure trove of curiously attractive women modeling… things. Sexy things—like vintage swimsuits and curvy corsets and hand-made lingerie.

They’ve kicked things off by putting together a little slide show. We’re hoping someone runs with this idea. It’s brilliant.

The Fantasy Life–Served

January 25, 2010 Culture, Eyecandy, Interview, web, Women 1 Comment

It was a typical day on Twitter. That is, I was e-stalking my object of absolute desire, responding to my friends, and being a good little monkey and checking my new followers to report and block any spam accounts. Then I saw it: @celebfantasies.

Long gone are the days that I check everyone following me to see if they’re cool enough to follow back — now I just reserve follow-backs for people who engage me. The truth? I like to surf blogs and tweets and I know how much time I can end up spending if I give in to even a single person.

But I run a blog now and people depend on me to be a little more attentive, so what the hell, right? Someone’s gotta read Twitter so you don’t have to.

.

“A homage to the famous, beautiful and sexy women we love, not hiding the truth of masturbation.”

That was the bio. Hell yes. The blog linked immediately revealed a veritable dish of beauties — from the absolute fantasy girls to the girls next door — as well as articles and fantasies, written by the author and pulled up from the depths of the web.

I shot the author, Brad Hamilton, a direct message and a few hours later, had him before me over Gtalk. What follows is the interview:

AV: First off–what possessed you to do this?

BH: The primary reason is that the society we live in treats sex as a taboo, especially masturbation. A friend, actually a phone sex girl, suggested that I write a blog about my fantasies about all my celebrity girls. It’s something of a therapeutic way of talking about my fantasies in a safe way. This is, actually, the third incarnation of the blog. The first two I had on Blogger a few years ago. With some of the video and slide shows I had on there, it was slowing up the page and the load times. Tumblr has a cleaner interface that has good features for photos and video.

AV: What’s the response you’ve gotten?

BH: Most of the visitors to my blog are guys who also masturbate to celebrities. Only one woman who has been the subject of my writings (that I know of) has seen and read my blog and she actually contacted me a couple times via IM and we’ve chatted about it. The guys like the blog of course.

AV: In the blog do you offer a daily hottie for readers to check out or is that less frequent?

BH: Something like that. If I write a fantasy about a woman or post photos or videos of her, she’s the woman that I’m currently getting my rocks off to. For example, I was masturbating to Fox 11 reporters Maria Quiban, Lisa Breckinridge and Suzanne Marques last week so my morning writings were about them, along with my Twitter entries. Can I tell you something? You fall in the category of newsladies/reporters. You’re adorable.

AV: Oh, I’m flattered! Thank you.

So, there you have it. A daily dish of fantasies, sexy articles, pictures and video, complete with a Twitter stream to let you know what’s new.

Bosses — prepare yourselves for a complete drop in productivity.

Oh, and you’re welcome.

Fusing Food and Sensuality: The Sex on a Plate Movement

January 14, 2010 Culture, Eyecandy, Women 5 Comments

Food blogger Jennifer Iannolo has been writing about how food ties into sensuality since 2004 when she wrote her first manifesto, On Food and Sensuality. Of course these days, she’s doing a little more than writing about the concept.

Beginning in her home state of New York, Iannolo is planning to kick off a series of events nationwide to bring sensuality back to your palate. Guess which metropolis follows New York City on this Sex on a Plate extravaganza? That’s right. Los Angeles. We’ll bring you the deets as they become available. But remember: you heard it here first.

“‘Sex on a plate’ comes from my first manifesto, On Food and Sensuality, written in 2004 when I discovered that the pre-consumption sight and/or smell of certain foods evokes a visceral reaction in me that is so sensually satisfying, the eating is almost an afterthought,” Iannolo says, quickly adding: “Almost.”

And because we don’t do anything half-ass, we’re bringing you the original photo that was used in the flier. Just promise us you won’t show up at any of the Sex on a Plate events assuming you’re going to a food orgy. Unless I invite you as my plus-one, of course. Then, baby, it’s on.

Yeah, that’s miss food blogger herself. Bet now you wanna follow her on Twitter, too, don’tcha? @foodphilosophy. Uh huh. You’re welcome.

Porn Star for the Neutering and Spaying of Animals

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, otherwise known as PETA, is well-known for its controversial, largely WTF? campaigns. Just last month, they got hell (literally) for some ads featuring Playboy model Joanna Kruga naked save for a crucifix.

Now, once again exercising their cleverness (not really?), they’re making a point about fixing your pets with porn star Sasha Grey:

Um… OK, PETA. But, look, we forgive you. I mean, it’s Sasha-effin-Grey.

Houston Press Writer Outs Journalist as Stripper, Makes Ass of Himself

The Houston Press unceremoniously outted Sarah Tressler as a writer, adjunct professor and stripper, suggesting that she’s only doing what she’s doing because she wants a book deal and a movie made about her life. “It’s all pretty much what you’d expect,” he says. “Writing in the style that really, really wants to be described as ‘fearless’ and ‘intelligent’ and ‘funny’ and ‘sexy.’”

Self-Censorship Isn’t More Honest Than Pseudonymity

In a world where employers can easily find out everything about you, where insurance companies can decide to give or deny coverage because they see some status update as representing a liability, where a judge at family court can take away your children because — God forbid — you had a photo taken at Playboy West some Halloween… It’s not a matter of the web exposing you. It’s a matter of no longer having the ability to segregate different aspects of your life as we were once easily able to do and the concern is entirely valid.

It’s Not About The Babies, It’s About Control

But there is one question we just haven’t been able to answer to our satisfaction — at least not without exposing the absolutely disgusting hypocrisy of people who claim to be interested in preserving the beautiful tradition of freedom and autonomy that this country represents. The question was posed simply enough: “The conservative party’s devotion to preserving the life of the unborn is admirable, but their concern seems to only extend to the unborn. Why are people so devoted to life in the name of God treat the very children they have saved as unnecessary burdens on the state, to be excised like so many malignant tumors?”

Three Paragraphs Every Woman Needs to Know by Heart

Every woman knows the word slut has power. Whether you love it or hate it, the word “slut” is an evocation of a gender double standard used to control women and no woman alive hasn’t thought about what it means to be labeled in this way. In some cultures, where honor killings take place, it is a matter of life or death. If you’re a “good” woman, don’t kid yourself. It means you’ve spent your life and will continue to spend your life calibrating your appearance, speech and behavior so that you are not a slut.

If You Want Your Insurance to Cover Birth Control, You’re A Slut and A Prostitute

Initially, it is unclear whether Limbaugh repeatedly cites this fraudulent article as a means to justify his dishonest tirade or if he truly failed to do the appropriate research regarding Fluke’s remarks, but as his show continues and Limbaugh plays more clips from Sandra Fluke’s congressional hearing, it becomes evident that he is picking and choosing what he wants his listeners to hear, in order to corroborate the allegation he made in a previous show that Fluke is nothing but a slut who wants everyone else to pay for her birth control.

40 Days of Choice

Hoping to provide pro-choice supporters a space to counter anti-abortion rhetoric and activity surrounding the “40 Days for Life” Lent campaign, a Tumblr has been erected to cheer on those who believe that a woman’s body doesn’t belong to society.
